Again. Once again Charlotte has the highest per capita tax burden among its peers in North Carolina. Charlotte is the only large city with a tax burden over $2,000 per person — $2,113.29 to be exact.

Another way to look at Charlotte’s position relative to similar areas is to compare Mecklenburg County to Wake County, which is what Maximum Leader Hood does here. The upshot: Government in Meck costs 16 percent more than it does in Wake. In Meck 5.5 percent of personal income goes to pay for government, in Wake it is 4.8 percent. Yay us, once again.
