Yes, a mild cause for celebration as Charlotte’s local government spending growth trails three other North Carolina cities. A new John Locke Foundation report finds that during the last ten years, Wilmington has experienced a 42 percent increase in per capita spending, tops in the state. Charlotte has seen spending grow at a 28 percent clip, good enough — or bad enough — to fall in behind Cary and Raleigh.

Of course, Charlotte is still tops in per capita spending at $3,804, just ahead of High Point and Durham and a whopping 41 percent more than Raleigh’s $2,702.

Maybe we can shoot for number four there, too.
