Fourteen months ago this story appeared in The Herald-Sun:
The Office of the State Auditor has found that a former employee at N.C. Central University diverted more than $1 million from the school over a six-year period in a money skimming scheme.
And yesterday there was this story in The Herald-Sun:
A grand jury has indicted the former provost at N.C. Central University for embezzlement and larceny and indicted a former program director for embezzlement.
The Durham County Grand Jury indicted former Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Beverly Washington Jones on two counts of embezzlement and one count of larceny for allegedly taking $61,959.
The grand jury also indicted Nannie (Nan) A. Coleman, the former executive director of N.C. Central University’s Historically Minority Colleges and Universities Consortium, on five counts of embezzlement for allegedly taking $137,330.99 from the consortium.
If my math is correct, that’s only $199,290. So, where is the other $800,710? Are there more indictments coming? Was the state auditor wrong about the total? Can they not find the money or the people who stole it? Just asking.
