The Wake Community Network has been monitoring the Wake County school board races and the issue of endorsements recently took center stage.

“That implies there’s an endorsement from the system.”  Wake County Board of Education member Kevin Hill made these remarks in relation to a Ron Margiotta campaign mailer featuring a photo of Superintendent Tata with Margiotta at a recent school function. Ron explained the photo was used to express his pride for being part of the leadership that brought Tata to Wake County.

Was it inappropriate for Charlotte Hughes – Director of the Program Monitoring and Support Division at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to pen a letter on DPI stationary with contact information at DPI? Hughes composed the letter in support of Morrison’s appointment to the Wake County Board of Education. Did that imply an endorsement from the system?  Charlotte Hughes is also on the State Council for AdvanceEd as well.  View the letter here.

Interestingly, the Wake County residents in the news report dismissed the hoopla over the Margiotta/Tata photo. It will not change their vote.  Move on.  Nothing to see here.

Just for the record, photos of me with my wife and kids constitutes an endorsement.
