According to Chapel Hill resident David Feddeman, who wrote Mayor Kevin Foy to voice opposition to a possible tax increase to fund the expansion of the Chapel Hill library, here’s what a homeowner gets for his/her $4,000 per year in local taxes:

“We live in a two-story salt box, very basic, less than 2,000 square feet, and we’re paying over $4,000 a year in local taxes,” resident David Feddeman wrote Foy. “Enough! Now is not the time for $16 million in additional library space.”

Mr. Feddeman may be out of luck. Chapel Hill is known for its ongoing king-size tax hikes, including this year’s whopper of 11 percent.

Meantime, Orange county officials continue to wonder why so many people can’t afford to live in the county. Hmm, I wonder what it could be.
