TriadWatch reported Don Linder’s request for stimulus cash here, then David Hoggard set everyone up with his comment about the “artificial turf soccer fields built in parking lots.” I’m surprised nobody jumped on that.

That’s because enough of us remember the early ‘aughts when Linder, a wealthy anesthesiologist, was going to turn the crumbling Carolina Circle Mall into a fitness mecca. But all he produced were artificial turf soccer fields in the mall parking lot, and running around out there on a hot day —-with the smell coming from sewage plant —- just wasn’t anybody’s idea of fun.

The Biz Journal reported back in December that Linder wants bond money for retail space and —-imagine this —- “a 62,500-square-foot, 125-room hotel.”
