The Chapel Hill/Carrboro school board wants to know more about what led up to the death of Chapel Hill High School football player Atlas Fraley. Fraley died at home last week, following his team’s football practice earlier in the day. Very, very sad situation.

Coincidentally, just days ago, a McClatchy news story discussed study results out of UNC Chapel Hill about the rate of injuries sustained by cheerleaders who these days are involved in increasingly complex and dangerous moves. From the story:

By way of comparison, last year’s rate for catastrophic injuries in cheerleading was 2.0 injuries out of 100,000 athletes. For football, it was 3.2 injuries out of 100,000 athletes, Mueller said.
