Have to go all the way to the Portland Tribune for this little item:

The economy is affecting teams at the gate. One source says in Charlotte the turnstile count was 4,003 for a recent game against Minnesota (the announced crowd was 9,285). The Bobcats averaged 14,717 last season and are at 13,443 this year.

Why don’t I ever read things like this in the Uptown paper of record?

Maybe for the same reason Ron Green Jr. finally got around to telling the Big Cat-Bojangles story today that we related here a couple weeks ago. Except Green did not credit The Dallas Morning News reporter who first published the tale. We did. Remember that the next time you are told that newspapers always have higher standards than mere blogs.

Anyway, from the looks of it, we’ve got a bunch of guys just playing out the string, disinterested in any actual reporting.

Bonus Observation: Check out Uptown party scribe Sarah Aarthun actively “rooting for all businesses to succeed right now” as she allows the owner of an Uptown burger joint respond to critics unhappy with their food. But Sarah does not report that the guy is being sued by another Uptown burger joint. I attempted to post a comment pointing this out and questioning the wisdom of a reporter “rooting” for the subjects of their coverage, but the post never went up.
