A judge who perpetrated one of the most heinous prior-restraint rulings in recent memory had the journalism Web sites all abuzz the other day. News-industry aggregator Romenesko linked to it. The Boston Herald and The Boston Globe also wrote about it.

They all mentioned that the judge, Merita Hopkins, had been chief of staff for current Boston Mayor Thomas Menino before her appointment, but no party affiliation was mentioned in any of these stories. Turns out that Menino is a Democrat (hey, it’s Boston!). Hopkins’ bio page on the Massachusetts judicial Web site, however, does not include her party affiliation. In fact, it contains no information. But it’s unlikely that a Democrat big-city mayor is going to hire a Republican as his chief of staff, so I’m sticking my neck out here and guessing she’s a Dem.

Even liberals are outraged about her ruling (which has since been overturned, by the way), but they refuse to mention her party affiliation, or that of her former boss and patron, the Democratic mayor of Boston.

You know, Democrats said if Bush was elected that freedom of speech would be in jeopardy. I guess they were right.
