The Boone Town Council has been sitting on a $5-6 million plan for upgrading Howard Street for almost 20 years. The plan included “street paving, water and sewer improvements, sidewalks, street lights, bike racks, and benches.” Failure to procure rights of way and inadequate funding have stalled the improvements. Councilman Andy Ball regretted the plan did not incorporate more green features, but he felt the public needed to see council move forward with the plans, if only in part. Council will consider scaling down the plan at their next regularly-scheduled meeting.
