The private sector is gaining enough confidence in the economy to risk submitting plans for design review. Meanwhile, Henderson County reports three construction projects are well underway. Unlike industry, government needs to accommodate its proactively-induced capacity growth. Furthermore, while some in the private sector remain out of luck, government can get good loan rates because it is not going away, it is always growing, and it can use taxing power as security.

The projects boasted by the county are:

  • a new $7.7 million, 60,000 sq. ft. law enforcement center.
  • $4.5 million in upgrades to make the Stoney Mountain Transfer Facility “high-class” and “top-notch.”
  • $1.7 million in renovations so the Land Development Center won’t look like the old health department it was.

Note: The courthouse will expand to fill the vacated planning department building.
