Some concerned parents recently asked if there was any correlation between parents choosing to enroll their children in middle schools and observations made in a recent commentary on prostitution.

The commentary pointed out that prostitutes are recruited between the ages of 12 and 15 and that, “This is especially scary being that much of the prostitution in Asheville occurs on South French Broad Avenue where Asheville Middle School is located.”

The author pointed out that her neighborhood “experiences a large amount of crime that is perpetuated by prostitution,” and that the neighborhood “must also deal with public disturbances resulting from prostitutes high on drugs or fighting with johns, prostitutes and johns engaging in sex acts in front of our homes and drug dealers loitering on our streets.”

She also states that “our children can’t play safely outside by themselves for fear of what they might see.”
