The News & Observer went to great lengths to argue that that there is no such thing as a “victory mosque,” and no such history of Muslims building mosques on the sites of defeated foes and rival religions. Their rapid-response team was reacting to an advertisement by Renee Ellmers (see below), Republican challenger to Democratic 2nd District incumbent Bob “Who Are You” Etheridge.

The N&O‘s fact-checking team might want to tell the people of Ayodhya in India:

How incredible! It just so happens that, by an amazing coincidence, ancient Muslims in India happened to build the mosque of Barbi Masjid at Ayodhya, the birthplace of one of Hinduism’s most revered deities, Ram, where a Hindu temple seems to have existed beforehand.

Liberal fact-checkers, I’m sure, will tut-tut that the actual very same words and syllables of “victory mosque” were not used by the ancient Muslims who built their mosque over the exact spot of a Hindu temple.

Just as they said there are no “death panels” mentioned in the Obamacare bill, just lots of health-care rationing panels. Very different, you understand.
