Also at the work session, Asheville City Council discussed options for drone parks; which is to say, unmanned parks. The city could save $200,000 by leaving the Food Lion Skate Park and the Aston Park tennis courts unstaffed like other parks. This concerned some members of council who feared vandalism and other public safety issues. Mayor Terry Bellamy suggested moving somebody’s office to the scenic tennis courts. Councilman Cecil Bothwell followed with something shocking. He suggested the city rent space at the skate park to somebody in the private sector who sells skateboard gear.
