We break into our all-transit, all-the-time coverage to note that new, official graduation rates for West Charlotte seem, well, fishy. To be blunt, a graduation rate of 81 percent for a school that has a pass rate on end-of-year tests of 40 percent seems way, way too high.

Former CMS school board member Lindalyn Kakadelis notes here that West Charlotte’s graduation rate is not that different than Providence High’s despite radically different test scores.

What’s going on here?

If West Charlotte left out students who should’ve counted, how does that number relate to the school’s official, reported student population? There is money involved in that. Lower enrollment means less money from the state.

Stay tuned. This needs answers.
