The U.S. House returns from recess today and is expected to take up several bills under suspension of the rules, including a measure to require hospitals to notify Medicare patients of how their classification affects their cost sharing under Medicare and other Medicare benefits (HR 876), as well as a bill to clarify that services by volunteer firefighters and other emergency personnel do not count toward the employer mandate under the Affordable Care Act (HR 1191). This week, the Senate is expected to consider the nominations for Assistant Secretary of Transportation and Assistant Secretary of Commerce. The Senate will then resume consideration of anti-human trafficking legislation (S 178). Later in the week, the Senate may also vote on the confirmation of Loretta Lynch as the next Attorney General. Both the House and Senate Budget Committees are scheduled to mark up their chambers’ fiscal 2016 budget resolutions this week. In addition to numerous budget-related hearings, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is holding a hearing on reauthorizing surface transportation programs on Tuesday.
