While we patiently wait for the NC Senate to release their budget plan…why not take a look at the Federal budget?

The House is expected to consider one, or possibly two, appropriations bills on the floor this week. First the House will consider the Commerce-Justice-Science bill (H.R. 2578), which includes $51.4 billion in discretionary funding, an increase of $1.3 billion over current funding levels. They also may take up the Transportation-HUD bill (H.R. 2577), which includes $55.3 billion in discretionary funding, an increase of $1.5 billion over current funding levels. The House Appropriations Committee is scheduled to mark up the $578.6 billion Defense appropriations bill, and the House Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations will mark up its spending measure later in the week.

While the state’s fiscal year is nearing a close on June 30th, the federal fiscal year doesn’t end until September 30th.  So there is a little more time in Washington before we start talking about a shutdown.
