So said “flabbergasted” GCS Superintendent Terry Grier asked after Guilford County commissioners decided to take their time resolving financing issues for Eastern Guilford High School.
Here’s the issue, the way I see it: If the school system has $31 million left over from the 2003 bond, then why is the new Jamestown Middle School, listed at a cost of $28 million, on this year’s proposed bond? If the school system were to step and say it was going to use the leftover money for that purpose, it might go a long way toward convincing commissioners to pass COPs for Eastern, not to mention gaining some credibility with voters. Yeah, I know other projects have been earmarked for the money, but what could be more crucial than the project that was used to sell the 2003 bond?
I realize that’s a simple question to a complex issue. Then again, everything’s complex when it comes to the school system here in Guilford County.
