OK, that’s always a loaded question, but there seems to be some confusion over chief of staff Eric Becoats’ status.

Chalkboard reported yesterday it looked like Becoats was on his way out, destination unknown, and GCS was going to hire Charlotte-Mecklenburg (big surprise) spokesperson Nora Carr as the new chief of staff.

But then Brian Ewing updates his post, saying Becoats new position is within GCS. Meanwhile, today’s N&R sidebar says the school board will discuss “approval of a new position and new hiring for the chief of staff. Superintendent Mo Green is proposing the creation of a chief administrative officer position to be filled by current Chief of Staff Eric Becoats.”

So it looks like Mo Green’s creating a new position for Becoats. Administrative positions don’t come cheap, you know. And why it it, during these tough financial times and massive layoffs, local government keeps hiring?

How will our (insert sarcasm) strong-willed school board respond? Stay tuned.
