North Carolina wants to switch the grading system for secondary school students to a ten-point scale. It may be that teachers are having too many problems dealing with increments of seven, or it may be, as in the case of employment records, that we need to obfuscate some scary trending. Ask me if I care. I was all A’s in high school, but that was because I rode the coattails of my genius sister, and the teachers lived in mortal fear of my mother. It wasn’t until maybe 20 years and 700 miles later that people started seeing me as the unevolved pond scum I truly be.
