On this I agree with the News & Observer’s J. Peder Zane. In this blog, Mr. Zane states that he believes in global warming but thinks it is wrong to cut off discussion of an issue: “Even the smartest people make mistakes,” he correctly states.

Zane then goes on to discuss the population alarmists of a few decades ago, who of course, were completely wrong on the dire prediction that the world would have starved to death by now because of overpopulation. Many countries are dealing with the opposite problem, as well as a lack of immigration. Japan is a great example, where the government is now investing in sophisticated robot technology in order to have caregivers for its predominantly elderly population.

We can only hope the climate change alarmists, many of whom are in powerful policy positions right here in North Carolina, adopt Mr. Zane’s view that discussion and debate are healthy, particularly when we appear on the verge of adopting policies that will have negative economic consequences for every North Carolinian.
