It was learned via bloggers on Friday that a student of Amy Bishop, the professor at the University of Alabama-Huntsville, who killed three colleagues at a faculty meeting, had called her “a socialist” on a professor-rating Web site. That was roundly ignored by the mainstream media. Now, today, The Boston Herald has this:

A family source said Bishop, a mother of four children – the youngest a third-grade boy – was a far-left political extremist who was “obsessed” with President Obama to the point of being off-putting.

The Herald isn’t known as a liberal paper like The Boston Globe, but even they buried that sentence at the bottom of their story, and gave no hint to Bishop’s politics in the headline or in the early parts of the story.

I wonder how many other media outlets will even mention it. I’m not saying her love for Obama led her to start shooting, but suffice it to say that if it had been found she had ever come within shooting distance of a Tea Party rally that this would be her defining characteristic.

UPDATE: It occurs to me that anyone “obsessed with Obama” is by definition “off-putting.”
