(This post has been updated to add the photos of senators who joined the filibuster after the post originally was published, and to add a reported response from Sen. Burr’s office.)
Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky currently is engaged in a “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington”-style filibuster of John Brennan’s nomination to lead the CIA.
That means he must continue to speak, not relinquishing the floor, only taking breaks when he agrees to accept questions from allies.
And just who are those allies who are aiding Rand today? Here they are so far:
As a North Carolinian, I ask, where is this man?
Probably too busy prepping for his dinner with President Obama tonight to worry about things like separation of powers, checks and balances, and habeas corpus.
UPDATE: A constituent of Burr’s has reported the following on Facebook:
Senator Ted Cruz has the power of angels lifting his words in chorus with Senator Rand Paul’s constitutional leadership. The assist from Senator Mike Lee is laudable. Where is our NC Senator Burr ? “Paul” at Burr’s office said Burr had no invitation to join the filibuster.
