That’s a quote from Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) in this terrific audio interview with The Economist’s “Democracy in America.” (It’s the 3rd item in the first row of features.) Sen. Coburn was responding to a question from the interviewer about what happens when Sen. Coburn’s constituents ask him to spend money on projects for Oklahoma. You’ll find it at 12:15 into the 13:39 minute interview, which is well worth your time. Coburn is a solid fiscal conservative and he leaves no doubt about his view of elected officials and their spending habits, or what the next president needs to do come January 2009. What’s also interesting is the interviewer’s subtle — and perhaps not so subtle — humor.
