Boone Town Council held a closed email meeting sometime yesterday. The purpose was to discuss legal matters pertaining to the town’s challenge to the state’s outlawing of extraterritorial jurisdictions. Since ETJ’s were outlawed, 200 municipalities have continued to exercise planning dominion over people who aren’t allowed to vote in their elections. Municipal leaders maintain they need this kind of control because of the pretense of knowledge whereof we spoke yesterday.

Another post today mentions the importance of following the law, no matter how stupid. Boone’s actions, and other intergovernmental lawsuits, let us know it is OK to break even good laws provided you think you have infinite resources to exhaust (i.e., taxpayers) on legal fees.
