In an online discussion conducted by PERC (Property and Environment Research Center), Roy Cordato joined other economists and academics in addressing an interesting question posed by PERC. If one stipulates that burning fossil fuel will result in some benefits and some harm, should those who are harmed have the right to compensation from those who contributed to the harm? Among Cordato’s comments was this: “The key question is whether global warming entails a rights violation. That’s why I suggest that if someone can make a case that is deemed courtworthy then he should go for it and let the common law process sort the issue out.” Read the discussion in PERC REPORTS.
