Congress is responsible, due to a host of foolish policy decisions that have greatly reduced our ability to produce oil. So argues Mackubin T. Owens in today’s Wall Street Journal. You can read his piece here.

“If Congress really cared about the economic well-being of American citizens, it would stop fulminating against IOCs and reverse current policies that discourage, indeed prohibit, the production of domestic oil and natural gas,” Owens writes.

He doesn’t go into the reasons why majorities in Congress — both while under Republican and Democratic control — have enacted and kept in place these obstructionist policies, but the explanation lies with the power of the environmental lobby. Politicians dread emotional attack ads paid for by environmental groups. Perhaps this year they will dread emotional attack ads against them for sky-high energy prices even more.
