The Hendersonville Times-News announced farmers are having problems finding people to pick apples. The article is illustrated with a patch of apples just dying to be picked. The newspaper argues migrant workers read bad press about an unseasonable spring freeze and went elsewhere. The unemployment statistics are way too low to find any Americans able to help. They’re probably all overeducated and afraid to forfeit disability payments by using their hands or feet. Consequently, a majority of Henderson County Commissioners would like permission from the state to stop using E-Verify. Since that isn’t likely, we could all just let the apples rot. There’s enough reality TV and Fritos to keep us fat, dumb, and happy.
