The Wall Street Journal’s resident authoritarian, Thomas Frank, thinks that the left needs to reclaim the freedom issue. Read his foolish blather here to get his drift. He contends that we’re free as long as the state permits us to complain about things.
So he thinks that the left, which loves nothing more than to enact new mandates and prohibitions on people and to take ever-increasing amounts of their income away, needs to persuade people that it’s all about freedom. That’s reminiscent of 1984: slavery is freedom.
Apropos of that, I’m glad to report that my brother will be attending a protest Saturday in Milwaukee. I have suggested he make a sign reading:
Patrick Henry did NOT say “Give me mandatory, regulated health insurance or give me death!”
Freedom, Mr. Frank, means that you get to choose how to live your life, not politicians and bureaucrats.
