Also on the town-hall front, beginning tonight at 7, the State Employees Association of North Carolina will stage a series of public events over the next three weeks supporting the Obama health-care plan. Check the link for times and locations.
Wonder how many Democrats in the state’s congressional delegation who refuse to schedule town halls with constituents will show up at these events to speak? SEANC, the local affiliate of the Service Employees International Union, has invited members of Congress to participate. And we’ve heard multiple reports that 2nd District Rep. Bob Etheridge may appear at the one scheduled Wednesday at 7 on the campus of Central Carolina Community College in Lillington.
Just last week, Etheridge’s spokesman said the congressman would not host any town hall meetings because Etheridge was “worried” that a few hostile questioners could hijack the forum.
So will Etheridge, or any other congressional Democrat, appear at events that are designed to manage participation and limit criticism from the audience?
These events are free and open to the public. Just watch out for the large men (and women) in purple shirts.
