As predicted last week CMS board vice-chair Kit Cramer has emerged as the possible swing vote in the superintendent choice and, surprisingly, on CMS budget matters. Cramer evidently has been convinced that voters really are serious when they say CMS must stop wasting money for another school bond package to have a chance of passage in November.

In turn Cramer and the Chamber of Commerce folks understand that they cannot possibly put a happy face on another bond defeat. Fear of the headline “Charlotte Again Rejects School Bond” is strong indeed. But it is strong enough to sustain opposition to both Frances Haithcock and her $32 million CMS spending increase plans?

We will soon find out.
