I’ve stayed away from this story because —– as Leonard Pitts notes— there’s been a lot of Nazi talk lately, and I didn’t want to add fuel to the fire.
But now we’re talking about real Nazis—- not the kind fabricated by leaders of the Democrat party —- and they’re planning their regional conference in Greensboro later this month. The N&R editorialized on Tuesday that the Nazi conference “isn’t the way anyone wants to draw attention to the approaching anniversary” of the 1979 Klan-Nazi-CWP shootout.
But exactly who’s been using the upcoming rally to draw attention to the approaching anniversary? The N&R, that’s who. OK, they noted the irony in Saturday’s article. Fair enough, though you got the impression that the Nazi rally was occurring on the exact anniversary of the shootings instead of two months ahead of time. Then there was yet another article in today’s paper noting how the “Neo-Nazi event creates parallels to clash in 1979.”
What I’d be interested to know is just how many of this generation of Nazis are even aware there was a shootout in 1979. Thirty years is a long time —- for some of us.
