As far as I can tell, there’s not a peep from the UNC Chapel feminists about tomorrow’s speech by President Obama’s key economic adviser Larry Summers — the man Harvard’s feminist faculty and others drummed out of the Harvard president’s chair primarily over his comments about the low numbers of women in math, science, and engineering and differences between the sexes.

At the time there was outrage from feminists, but a check of the Carolina Women’s Center website home page shows zip, zero, nada about Mr. Summers coming to campus. There’s also nothing on the website home page of UNC-Chapel’s Feminist Students United group.

Let’s recall how Harvard feminists reacted to Mr. Summers in 2005 at a rally to protest his comments, which they found offensive. From the February 23, 2005 Harvard Crimson:

Marcel A. Q.. LaFlamme ’05, one of the primary organizers of the event, said that he wanted Summers to resign, but that regardless of the recent controversy, he felt Summers was obliged to address more women’s and minority issues on campus.

“Whether or not Summers steps down, these are demands that must be implemented to truly achieve an anti-sexist Harvard,” said LaFlamme. “Summers’ comments are reprehensible, but for our group, they are just the tip of the iceberg.”

“If the faculty wants to register a vote of ‘no confidence,’ we’re with them, in solidarity with them,” he added.

Summers will appear at UNC Chapel Hill tomorrow.
