“we believe that everyone should go [to college], but at the same time, we don’t know why. Is it supposed to be leisure time for spiritual nourishment so you can read the best that’s been thought and said and so on or is it training for a job or is it, as in the case of many people, a booze cruise? … This confusion dates all the way back to the democratization of higher education [following World War II]. … And we’re the only country that suffers from it, too.”
