The News & Observer had a short story this morning about 19 professors from area universities who signed a letter to Wake County Superintendent Del Burns seeking a meeting to discuss an incident at Enloe High School in which an invited speaker said some things that Muslims didn’t like.

OK, fine. But…. they didn’t identify the 19 professors! No blogger would ever consider posting something like that without naming all involved and including links to any supporting documents.

Newspapers tell their readers every day: “We don’t give you all you need to know about this issue. We don’t do that because we don’t have room to do it in print and our Web pages come from our print pages. So deal with it.”

Readers are not stupid. Soon they drift away to blog sites and other alternative media sites where they can get the whole story. And newspapers wonder why their market share is plummeting.
