OK, the $4.8 million incentives package passed by the Winston-Salem City Council for WFU Health Sciences might not seem like much, considering the fact that it’s on par with Randolph County’s $4 million package.

County commissioners are expected to take up a proposal for $6.7 million at their meeting Monday, with terms similar to the agreement the city approved…..
Health Sciences estimates that it will need $34 million for roads and other infrastructure in the next three years and between $45 million and $50 million over the next 10 years, said Dr. Richard Dean, the chief executive of Health Sciences.
So far, Health Sciences has about $20 million committed from federal, state and local sources, including last night’s city-council vote, Dean said.
Between $12 million and $13 million could come from pending requests, which include requests to a state economic-development fund and to Forsyth County, he said.

Toward the end of the meeting, the city council went into closed session.
Mayor Allen Joines said that council members talked about an economic-development project and asked city staff to keep working on it, with the goal of bringing a recommendation to the council for discussion at its meeting Dec. 18.
