The Guilford County Board of Education will take another look at bids to renovate Ragsdale High School, which originally were on a 2003 bond referendum.

Meanwhile, the Rhino writes GCS’ ongoing budget negotiations. Superintendent Mo Green and chief financial officer Sharon Ozment sure know how to play with numbers:

The very first page of Green’s recommended budget – after a spiffy cover page – listed all the theoretical cuts in state spending the school system has received in the last three years, along with all the theoretical cuts Green and Ozment propose making this year – numbers printed in vivid red that add up to an impressive $90 million.

This is a typical Guilford County Schools tactic, to present “cuts” out of context and at the front of the budget, making it appear to inattentive school board members and the county commissioners that the current year’s budget must be far smaller than last year’s, which it never is.

In other words, don’t feel sorry for GCS —or public education in general. By the way, while Sen. Richard Burr is at it anyway, how about we just eliminate the Department of Education? I’ve suggested that to a couple of liberal friends of mine, and they looked at me like I was crazy.
