Inside Scoop reports the Greensboro City Council will hold a special meeting regarding the reinstatement of police officer A.J. Blake, but sources tell Guarino “there will not be a quorum at the meeting, so it therefore may not even take place.”

I was going to ponder whether or not the council was going to address Blake’s controversial comments in light of the the fact that District 1 council candidate Ben Holder’s press conference urged council members to look into Blake’s claim that he could no longer work with the department’s gang squad because “the threats would be coming more from them than the criminals.”

Remember Blake’s comments were deleted from both the N&R print edition and subsequent online versions. It’s totally believable that the guys down on East Market Street recognized the potential political implications of Blake’s comments and spiked them. Still —- can’t believe I’m doing this —- I’ll cut the N&R some slack and believe the comments were cut from the print edition for space reasons, and that their policy is subsequent online editions match print versions. That said, one question has to be asked —– would Blake’s comments have even reappeared in the N&R —thus generating the current controversy —– if bloggers hadn’t called attention to them in the first place?
