George Will’s latest Newsweek column reminds us that the recent economic turmoil will produce some good news. Among the positives to take away from the current economic picture:
Happily, all across America, state lotteries?government mechanisms for fleecing the gullible for the benefit of governments?are suffering because people with shrinking disposable income are dispensing with those instant “scratch” tickets.
One hopes that North Carolina officials would not respond to a drop in lottery ticket sales by developing new schemes to lure people into taking a sucker bet.
