At this point, it appears that the controversial School Violence Prevention Act and the Healthy Youth Act will become law. North Carolina’s Bolshies are thrilled.
As a percentage of all school students in North Carolina, private, home, and charter school students have a relatively small market share. But these kinds of bills are often the tipping point for families who need just one more reason to send their children to a non-traditional school. In this case, they have two.
The more families that opt for non-traditional schools, the more support school choice and charter school efforts receive. (Not to mention the fact that there may be fewer kids to indoctrinate, but I digress.) Of course, it is impossible to predict whether these bills will increase the number of students enrolled in non-traditional schools, but it would be foolish to discount the notion altogether.
