That’s the question Dan Riehl asks:

Will the media eventually just stoop to outright lying to prop up Obama? Maybe, maybe not. However, if Obama continues to stagger so amateurishly of his own accord, they might just have to if they want to see him looking as though he’s doing anything but just barely standing there, … a deer in front of whatever next set of headlights passing by as we move through his four years.

My view is that this is already happening. For instance, the notion that Obama has been spending all his waking hours trying to “reach across the aisle” is a favorite media meme. Facts, bothersome facts, simply don’t bear this out. In fact, they show that Obama has been a hard partisan of epic proportions. As Dan points out:

Forget the Obama who told the GOP, “I won!” Forget the Obama who went off to a Dem retreat in Virginia and attacked the opposition party as no recently installed president has ever done so far as I can recall. And let’s forget the Obama who turned his purported early hallmark issue, the stimulus, over to a highly partisan House Speaker to draft. That dummie just can’t exist.

From vettings, to withdrawn offers and nominees, Obama’s first days in the White House would be comical if the issues weren’t of such import. But they can’t abide that – a Democrat who might just end up being the butt end of a thousand jokes. Instead they want to try and re-invent some Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.

Lies can be told in many ways. Check out the editorial cartoon on The News & Observer’s op-ed page today, which is 180 degrees counter to the factual record.
