Tony Blankeley has a good column today on what he calls the Obama “glissade” — his shifting policy positions as he attempts to appeal to more than just the Democratic base.
If he had been saying the things he is today back in December and January, would Democratic primary voters have given him nearly the support that they did? Imagine how badly he’d have been roughed up in early debates by HRC and the others if he had offered his current, status quo oriented position on Iraq? Back then, most voters figured that Obama was the most adamant peace candidate.
Republicans tend to take their free market voters for granted and then stomp on them when in power with all kinds of interventionist garbage. Democrats tend to do the same thing with their peace voters.
