William and Mary President Gene Nichol resigned this morning after being told his contract would not be renewed. According to this report, his permission for the Sex Workers Art Show to perform on campus for two straight years was the final nail in the coffin he had been constructing for himself with his controversial decision-making. Nichol was already skating on thin ice, primarily because of his removal of the Christian cross from the school’s historic Wren Chapel, for fear it might offend non-Christian students, as Jon Sanders suggested here.

It is certainly a positive sign if college administrators who refuse to acknowledge any point of view other than those seen through the prism of political correctness start getting the boot. Hopefully, whatever Gene Nichol caught from the Sex Workers Art Show is contagious.
