I stopped by Cartridge World yesterday to recycle several printer cartridges. The owner told me his business is growing as people look for ways to save money. It’s a good reminder that even in bad economic times, there are winners.  Bad times also stimulate competition, creativity and innovation. For example, over the last few weeks, a  number of sandwich shops have jumped into the $5 meal arena, following Subway’s lead. In both of these cases — computer accessories and fast food — frugal consumers are demanding more value and business is responding. The marketplace is truly amazing to watch. When we return to prosperous times, consumer buying behavior may well change. If it does, businesses will respond to the new demands and there will be new winners.
