The Winston-Salem Journal makes its council of state endorsements in today’s edition:

The Journal editorial board endorses Dale Folwell for treasurer, June Atkinson for superintendent of public instruction, Josh Stein for attorney general, Beth Wood for state auditor, Walter Smith for agricultural commissioner, Wayne Goodwin for insurance commissioner, Elaine Marshall for secretary of state and Cherie Berry for labor commissioner. We will make no endorsement in the race for lieutenant governor.

No reason stated why the Journal will not endorse in the lt. governor’s race between incumbent Republican Dan Forest and Democrat challenger Linda Coleman. The Journal went with Democrat challeneger Walter Smith over incumbent Republican Steve Troxler because—in their opinion—Troxler “has not been always been hard enough in enforcing regulations on the poultry and propane industries.”

Meanwhile, in its Congressional endorsements, the Journal—surprisingly, in my opinion—goes with incumbent Sen. Richard Burr over Democrat challenger Deborah Ross, while in the 5th District race they endorse Democrat opponent Josh Brannon over Republican incumbent Virginia Foxx.
