WXII reports two Winston-Salem police officers were shot near the Bojangles on Peters Creek Parkway.

Winston-Salem Journal reports:

Sgt. Mickey Hutchens, 50, was shot while chasing a suspect behind businesses in the 1500 block of Peters Creek Parkway this morning.

Officer Daniel Clark, 28, was also seriously injured. The suspect, Monte Denard Evans of Winston-Salem, was killed.

Hutchens and Clark were the first officers to answer a call to the Bojangles’ restaurant at 10:29 a.m., said Assistant Chief Barry Rountree.

At an afternoon press conference, Rountree said that when the man ran from the officers, they called for backup. Hutchens and Clark chased Evans to the bank of Salem Creek, near a Chinese buffet restaurant. That’s when shots were fired. Rountree declined to say who shot Evans, but sources said that either Clark shot him or Evans killed himself.
