The City of Winston-Salem’s plan to use “stimulus money” to hire a “sustainability director” further advances the belief that city government —- if it hasn’t happened already —- will cease to exist as we know it and will simply become hnadlers of federal money, considering the fact that the “Department of Energy ‘strongly recommended’ that cities create a position to oversee energy-efficiency efforts and to monitor whether or not those efforts work.”

Salary, benefits and “programming costs” for said “sustainability director” position come to a total of $100,000 per year.
