A Guilford County chiropractor says someone from N.C. House Speaker Jim Black’s office approached him to raise money to support Black and two Republican representatives.
Steve Willen testified that he contributed $1,000 each to then Rep. Michael Decker and Rep.-elect Steve Wood. Decker and Wood were Republicans elected in 2002.
Those checks in early 2003 came during the same time frame that Republicans and Democrats were battling over control of a nearly evenly divided state House.
Willen says he also encouraged two colleagues to give a total of $6,000 to the Decker and Wood campaigns
