I was excited to see that my Paul Wolfowitz is officially the
president’s man to succeed James Wolfensohn at the World Bank.
Wolfowitz is best known for his role in shaping Iraq policy, But he was
also ambassador to Indonesia in the late 80s and during the Clinton
administration was dean of the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced
International Studies (SAIS). I was fortunate enough to attend the
school then and benefitted from how he shaped the program. He
understands the connections between corruption, economic development,
and terrorism. His tenure at the Bank promises to be as consequential
as his previous roles. Besides, who better to head the “OverSAISed”
Bank than the former dean.
