Triangle business owners Paula Poole and Jill Donovan are among the women who can thank President Obama’s health insurance “reform” for the blow their tanning salons — and their employees and customers — will take when the president’s 10 percent tax on tanning salons takes effect July 1.

“If I lose customers, I have over 20 girls that depend on me for a job,” said Jill Donovan, the owner of six Jill’s Beach salons in the Triangle. “If we don’t have the customers, if we don’t have the sales, we can’t afford the payroll.”

And it’s not just women in North Carolina who will suffer.

The industry also grumbles that it’s a tax that mostly affects women – since 67 percent of tanning salons are owned by women and more than two-thirds of their customers are female. Salon employees tend to be women as well.

This job-killing tax comes as the Triangle unemployment rate stands at 9.4 percent.

Not a peep from the feminists at NOW about this, as far as I can tell. If anyone has seen NOW express outrage over this tax, I’d like to see it.
